Welcome to Fudan Sociology

Fudan Sociology was founded in 1925. Many well-known sociologists, such as Sun Benwen, Ying Chengyi, Yan Xinzhe, Lei Jieqiong, Yang Kaidao, Pan Guangdan, have taught at the Department. Our department was closed down in 1952 due to university adjustment and was restarted in 1988. Now the Department offers undergraduate, master and doctoral degree programs in sociology and master degree programs in anthropology. Our department has 19 full-time faculty members, including 9 professors. In addition, we also have 2 distinguished visiting professors, 2 advising professors, 2 honorary professors, and several visiting professors from overseas universities.

Our department emphasizes both theoretical creativity and substantive empirical research. Our faculty members are well-known for their in the studies of social stratification and social mobility, urban and rural community research, economic sociology, and sociology of culture and religion, and studies of Shanghai.

Currently our Department Chair is Professor Liu Xin, Vice Department Chair is Professor Gui Yong.
